TikvaHope supports a network of after-school youth centers across Israel that offers hope for disadvantaged children and struggling families. A two-pronged approach works with both children and their parents:
Afternoon centers provide children with nutritious meals, academic support and enrichment activities that develop each child’s potential to succeed
Evening classes are offered to parents to help improve parenting skills, manage their homes and finances, and learn vocational and workplace skills
Children attend the after-school centers for six years – from third through eighth grade, while their parents learn invaluable parenting, home management and vocation skills. Thus the program gives disadvantaged children and families the tools to break out of the cycle of poverty.
Giving each child a strong academic foundation – and a major head start in life – is a major component of TikvaHope’s after-school program for Israel’s children-at-risk.
Enrichment activities enable children to excel beyond academics and develop their potential in many different areas. Once a week, all children participate in activities including music, drama, sports and martial arts.
It is impossible for a child to succeed in their studies when their mind is on their empty stomach. Yet, the sad reality today is that many children from disadvantaged families in Israel simply don’t have enough to eat.
A computer learning center outfitted with the latest technology and learning tools is an integral part of every Tikvah branch.
The TikvaHope after-school club in Kiryat Malachi offers Animal Therapy as part of their unique program.
Every day, the children receive a nutritious and tasty breakfast, lunch and snacks, and enjoy exciting, organized activities.
TikvaHope is intent on improving the lives of Israeli families, not just children.
Parents receive training for positions in the local job market.
Parents of children in the program receive prepaid food shopping cards each month and before holidays.
TikvaHope believes that children can succeed if their parents are motivated to improve their situation as well.
