As an educator in a city with a large immigrant population and high unemployment rate, I see children coming to school hungry and going home to an empty house. I’ve dreamed of a solution to this problem.
TikvaHope helped make my dream a reality with a network of enrichment centers for children and their parents. The centers provide a supportive environment where children acquire academic and personal skills, and parents receive training in home and financial management – enabling the entire family to break out of the cycle of poverty.
Today, the after-school center in Kiryat Malachi is flourishing. Hundreds of children-at-risk attend centers throughout the country. Instead of wandering the streets aimlessly without supervision, these kids are welcomed, fed and nurtured at a warm and homey center while their parents learn the skills needed to turn their lives around.
